There’s a taste of Jamaica in Rock Island this weekend. Ya Maka my Weekend is back for the 25th year..
The District is transformed into an island getaway with lots of good food, shopping, and drinks to go around.
10 bands will during the festival.
At least 8,000 people are expected to be at the festival this weekend to enjoy the island culture
Micaela Booth, the Executive Director of the District said, “It’s really a celebration of the whole culture, the music they play, the food that they eat, just the general atmosphere of the whole Caribbean islands is what we really want people to embrace when they come down here we really want people to walk through the gates and feel like they’re on vacation. “
The festival started at 5 p.m. on Friday, and will start at 3 p.m on Saturday.
Tickets are $9 for a one-day pass and $14 for a weekend pass.
