The royal family has shared a new picture of Kate Middleton to celebrate her birthday today, January 9.

The Princess of Wales turns 42 today and to celebrate, the royal family has shared a new photo of her with the public. Kate Middleton is usually the designated family photographer, having shared pictures in the past of her children, including Prince George. However, as it’s her special day, a snap taken by someone else was posted to X (formerly Twitter). The princess has dealt with a lot of saddening things happening on her birthday, almost a ‘curse’, in recent years, so here’s to hoping she has a more positive day this year.

Kate Middleton’s new photo for her birthday

Taking to social media, the official royal family account posted a picture from the day of King Charles’ coronation last May, which features a smiling Kate Middleton.

She is standing next to a grinning Prince Edward – also the Duke of Edinburgh, a title he inherited after the death of Prince Philip. The blurred foreground of the snap features the king. Charles can be seen talking to his sister-in-law Sophie Wessex, who is the wife of Edward, his youngest brother.

They captioned the picture: “Wishing The Princess of Wales a very happy birthday today!” with a balloon and confetti ball emoji.

The picture was taken by Chris Jackson, who regularly photographs the royals. He has even published two photo books, with his subjects being the late Queen Elizabeth II and the current monarch.

Royal fans wish Kate a happy birthday

Underneath the picture, fans were quick to gush about the newly shared picture of Kate Middleton for her birthday.

Another person wrote: “This is a beautiful picture! Happy Birthday, Your Royal Highness [red heart emoji].”

Someone else penned: “Aww what a beautiful picture! I love it [two heart eyes emojis] happy birthday to our amazing Princess of Wales! I hope she will have a great day and a wonderful new year! We all love you, Catherine,” adding a bloon and numerous red heart emojis.
