I’m hesitant to share this.
I think RSS is most valuable when you slowly add people to your feed reader of choice that you have found and you know you like. A firehose of additions might turn you off. Too much noise.
But on the flip side, you might find reading RSS too boring when you start from complete zero and there isn’t much in there. And I’d love for more folks to choose feeds as a way they read online. So here we go, here’s a list of RSS feeds scoped down to just personal sites of mostly-web-developers:
I made it by exporting everything of mine from Feedbin, then:
- I pulled out companies (Netflix, Evil Martians, Viget, etc.)
- I pulled out old stuff (jQuery blog, Modernizr blog, etc.)
- I pulled out group/organization blogs (W3C, WP Tavern, Verge, Ionic, etc.)
- I left in a little non-pure-tech stuff (Kottke, etc.)
I did not use a fine-tooth comb. If there is something weird in there, sorry. If there are dead sites in there, sorry. If you have an awesome blog and it’s not in there, sorry (and let me and everyone else know in the comments please).
I did this for myself also. I really wanted to try Readwise Reader, but they don’t yet support syncing with Feedbin (my canonical home for feeds). So the only way to get started is from scratch adding feeds one by one or uploading an OPML file. I verified the above works because Readwise Reader took it just fine.
